A healing occurred following the birth of our second child that has been invaluable to me through the years, for it brought into focus two basic points concerning the practice of Christian Science. Mrs. Eddy sets forth those points in the following statements from Science and Health: "The Christlike understanding of scientific being and divine healing includes a perfect Principle and idea,—perfect God and perfect man, —as the basis of thought and demonstration" and "Only through radical reliance on Truth can scientific healing power be realized."

Our son was born in a medical facility. As we prepared to take him home, doctors advised me that the baby had been infected with impetigo while he was in the nursery. They were concerned about the condition, which appeared quite alarming and serious. They also gave me explicit instructions as to the baby's care, providing me with what they felt was the necessary medicine. Not wishing to appear ungracious or inconsiderate of their concern, I accepted the medicine and put it in the medicine chest when we got home. But I knew that Christian Science instead of medicine would be most effective —we had always relied on Christian Science in our home for healing.

I was young in years and in my own practice and demonstration of Christian Science; so I was most grateful to be able to call on an experienced Christian Science practitioner to help us, as she had done before.
