Christian Standard

From Christian Standard, October 27, 1991 by James C. Donovan

"I have come to the conclusion that our society is trying to sell us a deceptive package. Unfortunately, too often we have bought this package and taken it home into our lives.

"There is an advertisement that I see in the Atlanta newspapers with regularity. This advertisement shows a beautiful ... young ... woman .... The caption for the full-page advertisement read, 'Life looks better when you do.'

"Guess what this hospital ad is promoting? Reconstructive surgery. You can have virtually any body part altered so that you look 'younger and better.' The message is: life is better for the young and beautiful. Many of us have believed that lie. ...

"The truth of the matter is that you and I have great value. We are worth a great deal. ...

"As we grow older in Christ we should also live joyfully ... because of the fact that Christ has given us life and life abundantly. Finally, let us never forget that we are special to God and He has made us unique."
