Several years ago our car was stolen

Several years ago our car was stolen. That day I had parked it in a local lot and taken the train into the city. When I returned, I was shocked not to find the car. Yet I was also calm, sure that we would retrieve it just as so many other problems had been worked out through prayer in the past.

My mother picked me up and drove me to the police station to fill out a report. As I handed it to a police officer, I asked confidently, "When can I expect the car back?" He chuckled and said, "If we find it, you won't want it." Suddenly I felt very discouraged and anxious. But being a student of Christian Science, I knew I could turn to God for direction and peace, which I did right then. I also called a Christian Science practitioner when I returned home, to support my efforts.

In the meantime my husband came home and was furious about the car. Frustrated, I realized I needed to see clearly that God's right government is in action. The thoughts the practitioner shared helped me to think more spiritually and to stop dwelling on material objects, as if they constituted my experience.
