The understanding of God that I've gained through my study...

The understanding of God that I've gained through my study of Christian Science has been an invaluable help in raising a family. Two family experiences clearly illustrated to me the power of God to heal and protect His spiritual offspring.

Summer vacation for our family meant "going to the lake." We always started our trips by saying a prayer together: "The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore" (Psalms). One year, when we arrived at the cottage, my wife and I began the task of unloading the car. Our three children were off exploring while we worked. I was about to take some luggage into the cottage when the thought came to me quite clearly, "Where is Amy? Go check on her." My response was immediate. I put the suitcases down and walked around to the front of the cottage.

As I came into view of the lake, I spotted Amy, our little daughter, standing in water up to her knees. In the next instant she came to a dropoff and fell forward into water that was over her head. I was the only one to see Amy go under the water. In rescuing our daughter, I was so grateful for the message that clearly had come from God. In Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, a description of angels reads in part: "God's thoughts passing to man; spiritual intuitions, pure and perfect." Truly the Lord does preserve our going out and coming in when our thoughts are prepared to receive and act on His instructions.
