One night I read an article in The Herald of Christian Science...

One night I read an article in The Herald of Christian Science on the subject of spiritual preexistence. The following morning, in order to reach something on top of a cupboard, I had to climb on a small stepladder. As I came down, I missed a rung and fell backward. My head hit the corner of an open door, and I landed on my back. I cried out, "Father, Father! I am Your dearly beloved." Then, thanks to some insights I had gained while reading the article the night before, I declared from the depths of my heart, before getting up, "Father! I am Your beloved child. I possess only the substance of Spirit, which is as permanent and harmonious as You; I am also as perfect right now as 'when the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy'" (Job). I knew that I was in reality a spiritual idea expressing the one Mind, God, and abiding in that substance of Spirit. I affirmed that in reality I was not born of the flesh but of God; that my true substance is eternal, imperishable, indestructible.

The back of my head was bleeding, so I wiped it clean while I continued to pray. Very quickly the blood stopped flowing, the pain in my back stopped, and a bump that had formed on my head soon disappeared.

Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy states, "Divine Science rolls back the clouds of error with the light of Truth, and lifts the curtain on man as never born and as never dying, but as coexistent with his creator."
