"Spirit, God, gathers unformed thoughts into their proper channels, and unfolds these thoughts, even as He opens the petals of a holy purpose in order that the purpose may appear." This sentence from the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, certainly proved most applicable to a situation my wife and I faced a few years ago.

We had decided to sell our house and find a smaller one. A new town house was found that we felt would meet our needs, so we signed a contract to buy it and listed our home with a realtor. Several offers were received but none were satisfactory.

Several months passed. During this time we prayed to understand better what true progress, place, and supply are in relation to God's direction of our lives. We knew progress is a law of God and that man reflects this unfolding progress. And we knew that, in spiritual fact, God's spiritual provision for man always equals the demands on man. But one day we realized we had been outlining how all this should take place rather than listening for guidance from divine Mind, referred to in Science and Health as "Deity, which outlines but is not outlined." It seemed right to take our house off the market and cancel the contract on the town house. All this was done harmoniously; we felt some reluctance, but we also felt we were being obedient to take these steps.
