My parents' first exposure to the healing efficacy of Christian Science came through their healing of depression and intense fear stemming from financial trouble following the Second World War. In addition to the healing of their emotional difficulties, their finances were stabilized. They began attending a local branch church, and I was enrolled as a pupil in the Christian Science Sunday School. Instruction received in the Sunday School and my continued study of Christian Science have been invaluable to me.

There were many healings during my childhood and youth. My mother told me of a healing I had when I was two. One day I fell down the basement steps onto the concrete floor below, striking my head. Mother picked me up, comforted me, and prayed for me, considering deeply "the scientific statement of being" found in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. The statement begins: "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all." Soon I was free, and I experienced no after-effects of the fall.

When I was in my early teens, I had a healing of a foot injury. While mowing the lawn, I stepped on a board with a rusty nail, which penetrated my shoe and foot. While cleansing the wound, I prayed earnestly with the expectation of feeling God's loving care and the comfort that comes from relying on Him. Very shortly the pain ceased. Complete healing followed quickly with no aftereffects.
