INSIDE: LOOKING INTO THIS ISSUE

When a neighborhood is a place where neighbors value one another, there's a sense of caring, mutual support. This kind of respect for each other builds a strong neighborhood.

When this neighborliness is missing, bigotry, violence, and crime can all too easily take over, and fear set in. What can we do then to help rebuild trust and respect? Can one person make a difference?

The first article in this issue, "Christian warriors," shows how prayer helped a neighborhood to recover after a brutal murder shook the area. The writer reasoned, "God can only know His own omnipresence. Therefore, God's presence was the only reality to align myself with." Through persistent Christianly scientific prayer, this father felt his own fear for his family recede. He was able to feel the strengthening effect of the Biblical view of man as made in God's spiritual image and likeness, always held in the Father's love. An editorial and an article reflecting on the recent fire in Oakland, California, explore what we all can do to rebuild a community challenged by loss.
