I would like to express my gratitude for Christian Science

I would like to express my gratitude for Christian Science. When I think what my life would be like without it, I am, indeed, very grateful to Mary Baker Eddy, who discovered this Science. I am also grateful to all the individuals who, down through the years, caught the vision of divine Science, were faithful to it, and, by sharing their healings in the Christian Science periodicals, contributed to the spiritual progress of us all.

At the age of eighteen I left home, carrying with me a lot of hatred and no self-worth. During my adolescence my step-father and I had not got along; in fact, we hated each other. At the time I left home I was suffering from a severe stomach condition and an extensive problem with acne. The family physician said there was nothing I could do about the stomach condition but learn to live with it, and a dermatologist recommended that I take medication to alleviate the acne until I "naturally" grew out of it. Because of the stomach condition, I gradually isolated myself from friends and all social activities and was only able to go to work and come home. I remember thinking that my life was pretty empty, miserable, and lonely.

When I was in grade school, I was enrolled in a Christian Science Sunday School, which I attended periodically until I was about thirteen. During my adolescence I did not study Christian Science, but my memories of Sunday School were dear to me. After a discussion with a family member about the futility of my situation, I was led to make an appointment with a former Sunday School superintendent who was a Christian Science practitioner. We spoke about Christian Science and how it could resolve my fears and concerns.
