Feeling God's love

One day, when Justin was almost ready to go to soccer practice, he noticed his mom's curling iron and he touched it to see if it was hot. It had been left on because Mom was getting ready to curl her hair. This curling iron is a special one and is so hot it burns your skin if you touch it. Justin burned his hand very badly when he grabbed the curling iron, and he began to cry.

Mom held Justin close, and they sang Mary Baker Eddy's "Communion hymn," which has a part in it that asks, "Felt ye the power of the Word?" They talked about only feeling God's love, which we can always feel when we learn of God's power in the Bible. Whenever Justin had a problem, he always asked his mom or dad to pray along with him. Justin's mom felt it was important to help Justin think about feeling God's love and care and his own true likeness to God. Singing hymns helped comfort and quiet Justin's thinking by reminding him of God's presence, so he could pray.

Justin's hand still hurt, and he wasn't able to stop crying, so he and his mom read from the Bible about Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, the three Hebrews who would not worship the golden image and were thrown into the fire. But the heat and flame had no power over them, and they were safe. While Justin and his mom were reading the story, a rainbow from a prism in the window shone on the pages of their Bible, and Justin said this reminded him of the rainbow he had learned about in the Christian Science Sunday School. That rainbow is in the story of Noah and the ark, and it reminds us of God's love for us.
