I was a young mother of three when I became a student of Christian Science. Our young son suffered from asthma, and I often wondered if he would be able to attend school when he became five years old. The family physician advised a move to a drier, western climate as a possible help for the child, but my husband was just becoming established in his own business in the Midwest. I had a slight knowledge of Christian Science and felt encouraged to try this spiritual healing method.

We enrolled our children in the Christian Science Sunday School. I spent a great deal of time studying the Bible and the textbook of Christian Science, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. The weekly Bible Lessons in the Christian Science Quarterly enhanced my Bible study. There were so many words in the textbook that were unfamiliar to me then. I often read with the textbook in one hand and Webster's Dictionary in the other.

In the textbook can be found this statement: "Children are more tractable than adults, and learn more readily to love the simple verities that will make them happy and good." This statement was proved true in our family. As I prayed and continued to study Christian Science, the asthma condition faded away. When we met the physician at social functions in our hometown, he would ask about our son, and I was grateful to be able to answer truthfully, "He is fine."
