For over forty years I have been a student of Christian Science and have relied on it for help. My first healing, which occurred in the early thirties, was of ulcerous colitis. Physicians said that they could do no more for me and that they feared I would not live for more than two weeks. But "man's extremity is God's opportunity" (quoted in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy). I turned to Christian Science, and prayerful treatment was lovingly given by a Christian Science practitioner. In two weeks I was out of bed for the first time in four months. I gradually regained my strength and health. This healing was permanent and established me as a student of Science.

As a young mother I was left with four children to raise. I am so grateful for the beautiful protection the children all had during their school years and for their freedom from sickness. They all had excellent school attendance and scholarship and were active in outside activities as well. This I attribute to their regular Sunday School attendance and to my church attendance. As Mrs. Eddy states in Message to The Mother Church for 1901, "... rest assured you can never lack God's outstretched arm so long as you are in His service." This has proved to be true not only during my children's school years but all during my lifetime.

A more recent healing I experienced was that of constipation. During that time I studied several helpful references from Science and Health. Mrs. Eddy says, "Mind is the source of all movement, and there is no inertia to retard or check its perpetual and harmonious action." She also writes, "Mind regulates the condition of the stomach, bowels, and food, the temperature of children and of men, and matter does not." Over the years I had not consciously thought of food as having power, but from this experience I came to know and understand that it is not food that regulates the digestive system but Mind.
