A HEART FOR COMMUNITY
It's natural to care deeply about community. Real love for family extends to neighbors—and overflows for the whole of society. This occasional column tells of how a spiritual perspective has been helping Sentinel readers help others and make a contribution to healing some of the collective challenges facing communities today.
For more than fifty years I have been active with the Boy Scouts program. I've gained much satisfaction from this.
During this time it has been my practice to prepare for the various activities not only by making the necessary arrangements but also by preparing spiritually—by devoting some time to prayerful study of the Bible and Science and Health. I feel there's a direct relation between this prayer and the protection for the whole group I've consistently experienced. It has also helped me to find a balanced sense of discipline without stifling the scouts' exuberance and enjoyment.
