How far does Love go?
I know someone who is willing to go to great lengths to help other people. I used to wonder how someone could have so much continuous compassion for others. When I was younger I used to have the same question when reading about Christ Jesus.
Whatever one's particular religious point of view may be, the Master's love for others is undeniable. And people who are moved by the spiritual vision of such brotherhood often do amazing things. My friend is like that. This friend believes that what actually gives life is the love that was so constant in Christ Jesus. This person, you might say, loves in order to live.
When you watch like this, it becomes clearer what Jesus was talking about when he said: "A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all ... know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another." A little later he repeated the point in another way: "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."
