Many of us have had childhood experiences we remember vividly. One of mine is the healing of my collarbone.

My parents had become interested in Christian Science through some friends who had six children. My mother was impressed with the other mother's calm attitude concerning her children, even in times of crisis. She questioned her friend as to the basis for her serenity. Her friend explained that whenever there was a difficulty with one of the children, whether physical or disciplinary, she and her husband always turned to God in prayer, as they did for themselves. Their family attended a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, and its Christian Science Sunday School.

My parents were not Christians, so it was very hard for them to consider attending the branch church themselves. Nonetheless, they very much wanted to raise their children with this same wonderful sense of harmony and confidence; so they enrolled me in the Christian Science Sunday School, saying to inquisitive relatives, "It can't do her any harm." I can remember being taught in Sunday School about God's love for all His children. I recall hearing Bible stories and learning the Lord's Prayer; but most of all, I felt that God was all around me and would help me always.
