Good is catching, but not disease
Most people would probably agree they would like to feel more in control of their own thinking. They would admit they are all too easily influenced by outside forces and attitudes that seem beyond their control. Is it really possible to achieve individual mental sovereignty and freedom from outside influences?
In reading the Bible recently, I was impressed with how independently Christ Jesus lived. He was certainly not isolated from others. He was in the world, and yet, over and over again, the Master was able to resist the subtle influence of prevalent thought. He maintained his spiritual freedom to live and act as the Son of God. He knew that his loving Father gives only good to His children. Jesus helped his followers to see that they, too, were heirs to the goodness of God as His sons and daughters. He showed them that they could withstand worldly pressures for conformity and bring their thinking and living under the jurisdiction of divine law, which shields from harm.
Can you imagine how encouraging it would be to have someone tell you with persuasive spiritual authority that your loving Father would never subject you to disease and danger? No wonder the people flocked to Jesus for healing, and the gospel accounts tell us how fearless Jesus was in dealing with all types of disease.
