Two winters ago, when my wife and I were vacationing in Yosemite National Park, I woke one morning with a pain in my lower back that was so severe it prevented me from getting out of bed. After I prayed silently for a few minutes, the pain subsided sufficiently for me to get up and dress. Through the rest of the day I was able to continue hiking and sightseeing, but the next morning the painful spasm returned and again made it difficult to rise. As I prayed for God's help, I remembered the Bible verse that says in part "in him we live, and move, and have our being" (Acts). Soon I was able to function normally again. As this was the last day of our vacation, we headed for home.
During the next week the condition seemed to deteriorate; the painful attacks became worse and more frequent. I called a Christian Science practitioner for prayerful help. Following his suggestion, I studied to know that God, divine Mind, governs the body in every instance. The situation improved over the next several days, and I dismissed the practitioner.
