Insights from the parent of a prodigal
Given the proliferation of drug abuse and amoral activities, families must sometimes confront and resolve serious questions and painful clashing of wills. What a son or daughter wants to have or be or do may be in opposition to the parents' standards. It may even be self-destructive behavior. Prayer that yields to the sure sense of God's intention and care for all His children can bring solutions.
Many parents might say that if you don't know what you want to attain in raising your children, if you don't have a sense of your own will and direction, you're just going to go round in circles. So what were your guidelines for being a mother, shaping a family, working with your six children?
Well, a mother certainly has objectives for her children. Mainly to be good citizens, to love God. My husband and I knew early on that we loved God and that as active Christian Scientists we wanted to raise our children under the teachings of Christ Jesus. This was very important to us.
