In the search for healing...
Physicians, psychologists, and patients are exploring the link between mental and physical well-being. It's sometimes called the "mind-body connection."
"There is little question that we can alter the course of disease by manipulating psychological factors," a professor of medicine declares. Another physician adds that if clinical uses for mind-body therapies could be developed, "a revolution in medical practice" could result (Time, March 12, 1990).
It isn't a new observation that thought can play a role in promoting, preventing, and curing disease. Some currently popular techniques are variations on ancient practices. Occasionally, Christian Science is mistakenly grouped with "mind over matter" systems. An acquaintance asked, "Don't you 'psych' yourself into health by thinking healthy thoughts as opposed to sick thoughts?" That well-meaning approximation is hardly an accurate description of Christian Science healing!
