"The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth" (Psalms). This was certainly my experience many years ago when a young daughter developed measles, along with other complications. The difficulty occurred at a time of particular upheaval for our family; we were to be part of a corporate move that included the uprooting of some six hundred families and relocating them a distance of about two thousand miles.

One night after I had called a Christian Science practitioner for help through prayer, I reached out to God with all my heart. As I sat there praying quietly for a few moments, I realized the value of the spiritual import of Bible stories as they relate to our everyday problems. I also remembered how Abraham had shown great faith and trust in God. I then realized I had to gain a better understanding of our daughter's real being as God's spiritual child. This meant letting go of false mortal concepts and seeing that she was completely in our heavenly Father-Mother's care.

This was the turning point of the illness. When I checked on our daughter, I noticed that her breathing, which had been labored, was becoming more normal. Soon she fell asleep, and the next day she was much improved. In a short while she returned to school and passed the physical examination of the school nurse, who found no evidence of any disease.
