Championing children's rights
An article in Time magazine, June 18, 1990, entitled "Child Warriors," highlights in graphic detail the plight of countless youngsters around the world who are caught up in war. Children, some as young as eight, are fighting enemies they don't know, for causes they do not understand. As the article points out, war isn't just a game for these children; it is a fight to the finish in an adult world.
For many of these youngsters, childhood is no longer a time to play, to learn, to experience the carefree joy and adventure of living. But voices speaking out against this senseless waste of youth's potential are growing louder and clearer.
People of goodwill around the globe are working for a new ethic of responsibility toward children. This new ethic will be greatly enhanced by the way individuals cherish children in their hearts.
