One of the first Christian Science healings I witnessed was the healing of my son when he was a baby of about six months. He had all the symptoms of pneumonia. I had recently graduated as a nurse from a medical training school and knew of young children who had died from pneumonia.
I had learned something of Christian Science and decided to ask a Christian Science practitioner to pray for my son. She said she certainly would pray for him. Rapidly my son's breathing became normal, and the fever left him. He went to sleep and woke shortly, completely healed. This is how I became a Christian Scientist.
A few years later this son became very ill with hay fever and asthma. A member of the family said I should accept that he would always have asthma and hay fever because all his father's family had it. I simply couldn't accept this. I took him on my lap and read from the Bible Lesson (as found in the Christian Science Quarterly). Then I picked up the Christian Science Hymnal and opened it at random to Hymn 382. There I read:
