"Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits"...

"Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits" (Ps. 103:2). Even as a girl I did a lot of Bible reading. I became acquainted with Christian Science in 1926. Since my mother was already familiar with this Science, I went with her one day to a Christian Science practitioner to learn more of God. From childhood on I had always been frail in health, and I thought God had put me in the world to suffer. In response to this the practitioner explained God's spiritual creation to me. She said that God is Love and has made everything good and that suffering is a false, mortal belief. As I changed my thinking and learned more of my true spiritual being as God's perfect child, I was healed.

There are many healings and blessings I could relate. In 1978 I had a very lovely proof of divine help and power. On a hot Sunday evening I went out and sat on the veranda, where I took off my slippers and made myself comfortable. As I sat there in the dark, suddenly something bit me on my foot. I got up, turned on the light, and saw a poisonous snake.

I thought right away of Paul and how he had shaken the snake into the fire and felt no harm (see Acts 28:1-6). After disposing of the snake, I took my copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and did some studying. There was pain, but I continued to study and to pray for myself until I felt free of discomfort. Then I went to bed. As is my custom before retiring, I took a copy of The Herald of Christian Science, German Edition, and did some reading. Then I prayed again and soon fell asleep.
