More than a quilt
The light of Christ is not a patchwork quilt
It is a seamless garment
So we cannot be satisfied
with stitching our lives together
into pleasant little patterns
The only real pattern
is the one of transfiguration
The light of Christ is a transformer
not a seamstress
The Christ not only mends, it restores
and renews and reveals what already always has been
And every time we part with
our preconceived pieces,
our this-is-how-it-should-work-out outlook
we are blessed
and robed in light,
a light that also warms the world,
the Christ light, which is not a quilt but
the Comforter.
