In the year 1970 I became acquainted with the Bible, which I had never read, although my family adhered to a particular religion. The Bible was given to me by a fellow worker. During the years following, I continued reading the Scriptures and tried to find a religion that would explain the obscure points that no one was able to clarify for me.

Throughout that time, every winter and when there were abrupt changes in the weather, I suffered from congestion and inflammation of the nose and throat. The trouble was alleviated only by injections, which, according to doctors, should not be administered often. In addition I was suffering from infectious angina, which recurred twice a year and for which I was having medical attention and taking medication. I also needed to drink a purgative before eating breakfast and have digestive infusions after meals.

Some time after I had begun reading the Bible, one afternoon I went to a cinema near my place of work where the film entitled Missing was being shown. It relates the true story of a North American Christian Scientist who traveled from the United States to Chile in search of his missing son. Immediately I began to wonder what Christian Science was all about because I had never heard it mentioned before.
