Although we lived in a small community that had no Church of Christ, Scientist, my whole family regularly read the Bible Lessons found in the Christian Science Quarterly and attended Christian Science lectures in neighboring communities. We were brought up to consider spiritual healing a way of life and accepted the statement in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 167) "Only through radical reliance on Truth can scientific healing power be realized."

During the Second World War a ship on which I served struck a mine in the English Channel. I was put in a naval hospital with fractured vertebrae. I was considered destined to be permanently incapacitated.

I had recently married a wonderful Christian Scientist, and I had a strong desire for full healing. Earnest study and help through prayer from a Christian Science practitioner brought that complete healing. I was discharged from the Navy with a clean bill of health.
