What Trojan knew

The only battle is between Truth and error—and Truth is always the victor.

Cats , as cat lovers (and all reasonable people) will tell you, are remarkable creatures. My cat Trojan—appropriately named in view of his intrepid exploits—was especially adroit and wise. Indeed, I think often of a lesson I learned from him.

Perhaps Trojan's most memorable exploits involved his friend and protector, an enormous, bearlike sheepdog named Thor. The two had been raised together and were great friends.

Trojan loved to explore the neighborhood, which was also populated by a number of dogs who liked nothing better than to chase cats. Before beginning one of his neighborhood jaunts, he would always make sure that Thor was at his usual station, tethered on the front lawn. Then, when pursued by a neighborhood dog, Trojan would make a dash directly to Thor and stand defiantly under him until an abashed dog would literally turn tail and run off.
