I am very grateful that I had the privilege of attending a Christian Science Sunday School from the age of three. Later, my main purpose for joining a branch church was to find friends. But it didn't take long to discover that I received the greatest joy and satisfaction through giving of my time and thought to others.

In later years, my husband became a Christian Science lecturer, and on one of our travels to Ghana, West Africa, we spent a night in a room that had no screens on the windows. In the middle of the night, I was abruptly wakened by something that bit me so hard on the arm I wanted to scream aloud. I immediately turned to God and pondered my unbroken relationship to Him. I had to be firm in the realization that God is an ever-present help.

In Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mrs. Eddy we are given the spiritual sense of the twenty-third Psalm, which shows us that God is Love. The last verse reads (p. 578), "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house [the consciousness] of [LOVE] for ever." I knew we hadn't left God, Love, back in our home country. He was right there with us, and I could express and experience God's love. I did love the purpose of the trip, and we had felt love from everyone we had met.
