I was a young child when my parents began the study of Christian Science in 1905 as a result of a healing my dad had. Ever since that time, I have studied and practiced the healing truths of Christian Science. The nearest branch church was a number of miles from our home, and because there was no transportation available, we usually held our own Christian Science services in the front parlor.
When I was in my late twenties, I became ill one evening with severe stomach cramps. It was apparent that I was suffering from food poisoning. I had the prayerful help of a Christian Science practitioner. My mother stayed with me throughout the evening, but about midnight I asked her to leave me and go on to bed. Around three o'clock in the morning I suddenly felt much worse. Prayerfully and emphatically I acknowledged, in a way that words hardly do justice to, that God was my Life. Relief was prompt. I fell into a restful sleep, and when my mother came in at six, I greeted her with the words "Joy cometh in the morning" (from Hymn 425 in the Christian Science Hymnal).
There were no aftereffects. I had an active day and went to a dance that evening. As a result of this experience, Life became a very special synonym of God to me. Not long after that I had Christian Science class instruction.
