Every day presents the opportunity for thanksgiving
Every day presents the opportunity for thanksgiving. For over thirty-five years I have received the blessings that a knowledge of Christian Science brings. I cannot be grateful enough to its Discoverer and Founder, Mrs. Eddy.
Several years ago when I went to visit my sister, I had a severe toothache. I turned to God in prayer and worked the best I could to understand better how Truth heals. I opened the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mrs. Eddy, to page 414, and my eyes fell upon these words: "Keep in mind the verity of being,—that man is the image and likeness of God, in whom all being is painless and permanent."
I knew that divine Love was sustaining me. That night my daughter called me on the telephone, and when I told her I had a severe toothache, she replied with love, "Why stand aghast at nothingness?" Her comment was based on the passage in Science and Health which states (p. 563): "Human sense may well marvel at discord, while, to a diviner sense, harmony is the real and discord the unreal. We may well be astonished at sin, sickness, and death. We may well be perplexed at human fear; and still more astounded at hatred, which lifts its hydra head, showing its horns in the many inventions of evil. But why should we stand aghast at nothingness?" The pain ceased, and I have not had a toothache since.
