At one point in my life, walking became extremely difficult

At one point in my life, walking became extremely difficult. I prayed for myself, affirming the Biblical truth "They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; ... they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint" (Isa. 40:31). However, in a few days it was too painful to walk more than a few steps, and I was soon confined to bed. The discomfort was such that I could not tolerate the pressure even of a sheet. I asked a Christian Science practitioner to help me through prayer.

During one of our talks the practitioner learned that I was concerned about my employment. I had started work only a few weeks before and because the company had created a new position just for me I was afraid I would be fired. After I explained to her that several employees resented an outsider filling the new job, she helped me see that we cannot be harmed by the thoughts of others when we understand that God, divine Mind, is the only power.

The next day my employer called to assure me that my job was perfectly safe regardless of the present situation. He explained that they had hired me permanently and I didn't have to worry. That night the pain subsided considerably and I was able to sleep under a blanket. However, I was still bedridden, suffering from lameness.
