Christian Science was presented to me as a schoolgirl by my aunt, and I saw from the first its healing power when she was healed of severe rheumatism. She eventually became a Christian Science practitioner listed in the directory of The Christian Science Journal. My uncle was healed of a longstanding hernia, alcoholism, and heavy smoking. I attended a Christian Science Sunday School while at college. However, my parents were very fearful of what they thought Christian Science to be, so for some years I only attended Christian Science church services when on holiday with my aunt in London. But during this time I knew that Christian Science healed and that one day I would again study this healing truth.

That day came, and from that day to this I have never regretted this step. Branch church membership and Mother Church membership followed and soon afterwards class instruction from a dedicated teacher of Christian Science. I have appreciated opportunities for service in our movement.

On one occasion I had severe pains in my shoulders and upper back. In my prayers I worked with a sentence in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 157): "Science both neutralizes error and destroys it." Throughout my days and nights I saw how I could apply this truth. I realized that Science both neutralizes pain with harmony and destroys fear with love, that Science both neutralizes insecurity and destroys it with God's calm assurance, that Science both neutralizes lack and destroys it with God's abundance of spiritual ideas, and so on. As my spiritual understanding increased, healing and freedom came.
