The study of Christian Science has taught me to think of God...
The study of Christian Science has taught me to think of God as a loving Father. This thought is amplified on page 16 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, which refers to "our Father-Mother God." I had an instantaneous healing of a severe headache when I saw clearly that God is our Father-Mother. On another occasion I suffered from a very painful shoulder for several days. When I retired one night I strongly affirmed that the condition had no real power, since God, the Father of all, creates only good. I prayed along these lines until midnight. When morning came I had slept peacefully for six hours, and the physical difficulty had disappeared.
The truths of Science helped me again when I received injuries to my elbow, ribs, and head in a fall from a garden wall. As a result of prayer I had a rapid recovery from the injuries.
Science and Health was first brought into our home many years ago. My father had recently passed on after suffering for seven years as an invalid. We had seen many types of medical treatment, including diets, fail to help him during those seven years. So my mother, her health debilitated after the long years of nursing my father, was glad to receive this book about healing. She was also happy to find a teaching that answered all the questions she had failed to find answers to in other religions during earlier years. Very quickly she became an earnest student of Christian Science. She no longer kept in her handbag the nerve tablets, headache powders, and other remedies she had carried with her for so long.
