I am grateful to have been brought up in a home where Christian Science was loved and practised, and I have proved its healing power countless times from my childhood to the present time. From my training at home and in the Christian Science Sunday School, I learned to trust God completely. This trust freed me from fear, and my childhood was practically illness-free. In adulthood I have experienced very good health, which has proved to me the preventative power of Truth as taught in Christian Science. In the First Epistle of John we read (4:18), "Perfect love casteth out fear"; and Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health (pp. 391–392), "Fear is the fountain of sickness, and you master fear and sin through divine Mind; hence it is through divine Mind that you overcome disease."
After I was married, with a home and family, I had many opportunities to put into practice the truths that I had learned. One such occasion was when I opened a window and the sash cord broke; the window crashed down onto my hand, trapping the fingers. I had to call my husband to come and release my hand. I was in considerable pain. I turned away mentally from thinking about the accident, knowing that I was enfolded in God's love, that I had never been separated from Him, and that matter couldn't suffer, because it truly had no intelligence. In a short time the pain ceased. I had a good night's sleep, and the next morning I could move and use my hand freely; there was no mark on the fingers.
At one point some years ago I felt a partial paralysis of my face developing. I asked for help from a dedicated student of Christian Science, who agreed to support me through prayer. We affirmed man's perfect selfhood and his inseparability from God—the omnipresent, omnipotent, and omniscient—and the consequent never-presence, impotence, and nonintelligence of disease in any form. I had no fear and trusted absolutely in my loving Father to preserve me forever in His likeness. We worked with the following passage from Science and Health (p. 420): "There is no metastasis, no stoppage of harmonious action, no paralysis."
