"When King Darius, pleased by Daniel's excellence, made him first president over the hundred and twenty princes, there was discontent and jealousy. The other presidents and the hundred and twenty princes sought to find a fault in Daniel so that they could discredit him in the eyes of the king. But they could find no occasion or fault.

"So they talked the king into signing a decree, established and not to be changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, that any man praying to any god or man, except King Darius, should be cast into the lions' den.
