Healing the effects of crime
Are we helpless victims of random crime? Or is there some way we can protect ourselves?
If we are faced with an emergency, a threatening situation, or if we've been victimized by a crime, there's a way of safety and healing to be found in the spiritual understanding of God and man.
Christian Science teaches that God is the only creator and cause and that He creates only good. The universe of His creating is spiritual, perfect, eternal, infinite—the only universe. And God created man as the image of Himself. So man—the only man—is spiritual and perfect. Not only does man reflect God's qualities, he bears witness to the glories of God's universe. This spiritual truth of God, the universe, and man is perceived through spiritual sense, and through prayer we can demonstrate the healing power of spiritual truth to overcome the effects of crime in our lives here and now.
Christian Science applies the term mortal mind to that which claims to be an intelligence opposed to the one divine Mind, God. This unreal mortal mind contends that the universe and man are material; it would have us believe that discord and evil are real and can therefore be part of man's existence. But such mistaken views seem real only until they are corrected by spiritual sense. Utilizing spiritual sense, we recognize that God's goodness is infinite and eternal—is the only reality. As the prophet Habakkuk says of God, "Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity." Hab. 1:13.
