One day when descending the steps to my office, I felt a bolt of extreme pain in one leg. I seemed to be locked to the step—unable to move. At first the thoughts came "How will you make it to your door? Will you be able to drive home?" But strong, spiritual truths quickly began filling my thought as I consciously turned to God for the inspiration I knew would bring physical healing. I recalled a line from Hymn 134 in the Christian Science Hymnal: "Held in Thy law, I stand." Then came a statement from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 480): "Consciousness, as well as action, is governed by Mind,—is in God, the origin and governor of all that Science reveals."

These God-derived messages reinstated the spiritual conviction I needed in order to confront the immobility as a lie about me, for I knew I am in reality the perfect, spiritual child of God. Just a moment of quietly standing and listening to God brought assurance that Love was supporting me.

As I maneuvered to my office and collected my bag and books to head for home, I held to a passage from Unity of Good by our Leader, Mrs. Eddy (p.61): "Coming and going belong to mortal consciousness. God is 'the same yesterday, and to-day, and forever.' " Realizing the meaning of these words, I saw that man, God's idea, reflects the "same" uninterruptible goodness, including perfect, harmonious action. And I saw that in reality I didn't have to "reach" home, because home, like action, is always harmonious and secure within consciousness. I felt a rich blessing in the offing!
