An experience provided the opportunity for me to discover that, in an apparent crisis, I could be sure of God's presence and protection. This occurred when the car I was driving was struck so forcibly by another car that it was later declared beyond repair by the insurance company.

I was flung to the other side of the front seat and covered with glass particles. These words from the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 14), came to me almost immediately, and I clung to them as to a lifeline: "Entirely separate from the belief and dream of material living, is the Life divine, revealing spiritual understanding and the consciousness of man's dominion over the whole earth."

I was not able to draw myself up to a full sitting position, but I was able to dismiss an ambulance crew someone had called and to say firmly that I wished to remain where I was until the arrival of my husband, who had been called. I will always be grateful for the consideration and kindness shown to me by the police and others who had gathered.
