A new vision for modern man and woman

"Where there is no vision, the people perish." Prov. 29:18. The Bible has a remarkable way of setting things straight! And this lesson from the Old Testament Proverbs is just as important today as ever.

Even with all the advances in civilization, there are probably as many reasons, or more, for concern over mankind's survival than at any period in the past. Widespread pollution, the haunting proposition of a nuclear winter, the inescapable signs of moral decay, epidemic sicknesses of mind and body—these are just a few of the challenges facing our society. For modern man and woman, it's certainly time for a new vision.

But what is actually needed? Is it to have a way of merely blotting out the troubling things, ignoring the warning signals, and then hoping they will somehow go away and leave us alone? Or could the need possibly be answered by putting on some sort of soft-focus lenses, so that at least everything doesn't look quite so rough around the edges? Or do we instead maintain a detached outlook, assuming that there's not much one person can accomplish anyway and that we can always count on somebody else—on those who seem to know what they are doing, "the experts"—to find needed solutions before it's too late?
