This testimony is written with deep gratitude for the teachings...
This testimony is written with deep gratitude for the teachings of Christian Science, which have brought the Bible and in particular the life of Christ Jesus into clearer focus for me.
In my late teens I had recurring bouts of a painful throat condition. When I began the study of Christian Science I experienced several very quick recoveries from this illness, but it always returned; and I had come to accept this as inevitable. A few years later I had a number of these attacks within a short period of time and became very discouraged. One day when all the symptoms were again evident I telephoned a Christian Science practitioner, who lovingly agreed to give help through prayer.
During the second night I woke thinking about the struggles of Jacob at Peniel and felt that I must study this account, which is in Genesis (32:24–30). I saw that in his struggle with the angel, Jacob did not let go when he saw that progress had been made, but held on until he received his full blessing. I realised that I had been satisfied in the past simply to get rid of the pain and other symptoms but that it was necessary to hold on to the truth and receive the full blessing.
