A time of blossoming

Spiritual unfoldment isn't confined to our early years. We can always continue to progress spiritually.

Wouldn't we all like to retain the fresh vigor usually associated with youth, to be as active at eighty as at eighteen? The Bible gives a number of accounts of people who were able to overcome, to some degree, barriers attributed to aging. Moses, for example, was reported to be one hundred and twenty years old when he died; yet, the Bible tells us, "His eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated." Deut. 34:7. Sarah was long past the normal years for childbearing when she had a son. Abraham, her husband, lived to one hundred and seventy-five years.

Each of these people loved and worshiped God. Their goodness and purity were the direct result of their closeness to God, the source of all life.

But is such practical trust in God confined to Biblical days? Or can we have the closeness to God that frees us from the limiting beliefs of aging? Mrs. Eddy certainly overcame many of the challenges of age. Through her study of the Bible she gained inspiration and a deep understanding of God, divine Life. As a result, when many people would be settling into middle age, she established a worldwide Church. And later, at the age of eighty-seven, she vigorously tackled the founding of an international daily newspaper, The Christian Science Monitor.
