We commit ourselves daily...
We commit ourselves daily. As individuals, we choose how much of a commitment we will make, and we benefit accordingly. The course of action I committed myself to was that I would follow Christ Jesus through the study and practice of Christian Science. This decision did not come easily; it came at a time of desperate need.
For many years I suffered from a crippling disease that was medically diagnosed as a form of arthritis. The condition was causing my spine and joints to fuse. I was in physical therapy every day, and I spent a part of each day in traction at home. I was also in a biofeedback program to learn to live with pain.
In the midst of all this, I started experiencing extreme pain in my head, which affected my eyesight and speech. One day, while I was undergoing brain tests and feeling very frightened, a reference to God that I had heard in my early Christian Science Sunday School classes came clearly to me: "There is only one Mind."
