"The use of human hands to heal the sick, an ancient practice largely dismissed by modern scientific medicine as mystical mumbo jumbo, is being revived by nursing researchers who say their studies show that nearly all people can learn to promote healing with their hands.
"The researchers report they have detected distinct physiological effects from using a modified version of 'laying on of hands' called therapeutic touch. Although others remain skeptical of its benefits, researchers and practitioners of therapeutic touch say the method deserves wider study and application as a healing aid....
