"Do you think I'll ever understand it all?"

A study of the Word of God requires our whole heart. But it is a lively and refreshing adventure.

Nearly everyone who is striving to understand more of God and man has times of feeling almost overwhelmed by the vast implications and infinite scope of what he is discovering. In honest concern he may ask, "Do you think I'll ever understand it all?"

Some time ago I had a simple experience that gave me a comforting answer to this question. I had been reading much Christian Science literature. But instead of thinking deeply about the ideas, I was just skimming the surface of what I read — mostly because I felt pressured by the sense that my time was limited.

Then suddenly a particular sentence caught my attention. It so inspired me that I went back and read and then reread the entire page several more times. I gave my attention completely and totally to what I was reading. When I was through, I understood a spiritual point more clearly than ever before, and all sense of weariness and pressure had disappeared. The answer was obvious: to understand more of Christian Science and to be truly refreshed by spiritual truths, give yourself wholly to what you are currently reading — whether it's the Bible, Mrs. Eddy's writings, or literature published by The Christian Science Publishing Society.
