During a time when I was preparing a talk about my career in...

During a time when I was preparing a talk about my career in the United States Army, I became filled with awe and gratitude as I started recalling one experience after another in which God had met my needs over the past twenty years. These include healings of illnesses and relationship difficulties, guidance in career and job decisions, and the provision of homes and supply to meet my family's every need.

In looking back I realize that one of the areas that provided the greatest challenge to me was that of the mandatory medical examinations required for all military personnel. In each instance where there was a need for physical healing, however, the need was resolved in some unique way in which I could be obedient to the military requirements but at the same time use my understanding of Christian Science to heal the trouble.

Although I could share many of these experiences, there are two that were very special to me. The first occurred upon my entry into the Army while I was in officers training. One day during classes I returned to the orderly room at noon, since I was not feeling well. When I requested permission to go to my quarters, I was very surprised when the first sergeant emphatically said no, and then informed me that I would first have to go to the hospital.
