I would like to share with you some blessings I have received in Christian Science....
I would like to share with you some blessings I have received in Christian Science. At one time I had been suffering for five years with a sore on one toe which I'd been told was incurable. In 1972 I underwent surgery on this toe. But the problem persisted. Not long after this I learned of Christian Science. My uncle, a longtime Christian Scientist from Kinshasa, came to visit us. Well, the book he had—Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy—interested me, so I opened it. The first passage I read was this (p. xi): "The physical healing of Christian Science results now, as in Jesus' time, from the operation of divine Principle, before which sin and disease lose their reality in human consciousness and disappear as naturally and as necessarily as darkness gives place to light and sin to reformation."
After that—in the next few years—I became more interested in Christian Science. But I still thought I could be healed through medication. I felt that a healing through Christian Science was dubious, practically impossible. In 1974 I went into a hospital for a second operation on the toe. But I again suffered for naught, because the sore still existed following surgery.
By the next year, I was no longer using medication, and my commitment to Christian Science, as well as my understanding of it, had grown. In 1977 I became a member of The Mother Church. I left the problem of the sore in God's hands. This time I was hoping and working for a spiritual healing. A year later I received my complete healing. A passage I reflected upon during that time is from Job (22:21, 23): "Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee. ... If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up." From this healing I saw that nothing is impossible to God.
