Even though I had been raised in Christian Science and had had a number of healings through the prayers of my dear mother, a devoted Scientist, for a time Science did not mean a great deal to me. But finally I reached a point when, after many severe trials, I turned again to Christian Science through the loving persuasion of my mother and began an earnest study of it. I remember waking one night with these words running through my mind: "Awake thou that sleepest." As I did not know what this meant, using a Concordance to the Bible I looked it up and found the complete statement in Ephesians (5:14), "Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light."
I continued my study of Science even more diligently after that, and countless times I have experienced the joy of uplifted spiritual consciousness through an awareness of the ever-present Christ. I knew that in divine Science I had truly found the Comforter, which Jesus promised to his followers (see John 14:16), and never again have I felt tempted to turn from the teachings of this Science.
There have been many wonderful healings in my life over the past twenty-eight years. Each has proved to me the power and efficacy of the Christ, Truth. To mention a few, I have had healings of apparent blood poisoning, severe ear trouble, symptoms of appendicitis and of heart trouble, and human relationship difficulties. Often I have had the consecrated help of a Christian Science practitioner.
