FROM THE CHRISTIAN SCIENCE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Class instruction

The lead editorial in the February 1987 issue of The Christian Science Journal furnishes a broad view of the educational system established by Mary Baker Eddy, a system of continuing education. See also the editorial "An education for now and the future" on page 28 of this issue.

A most important step in spiritual progress is Primary class instruction from an authorized teacher of Christian Science. In the Manual of The Mother Church by Mrs. Eddy, under the headings "Teaching Christian Science" and "Board of Education" there is basic information that is needed by everyone considering class instruction (see pp. 83-92). Article XXVII, Section 5, provides that the initiative for contacting a teacher for an interview or information about class rests with the student—and his desire to further his spiritual progress in this manner. When the choice of a teacher seems clear, the next step is to ask for an application.

The leaflet " 'Putting first things first' and 'Learning how to learn' " includes information about the value of class instruction. These two messages from The Christian Science Board of Directors are available free from the Clerk's Membership Services at The Mother Church.
