Our family has enjoyed many healings and joyful experiences...
Our family has enjoyed many healings and joyful experiences as students of Christian Science. I feel I was blessed by attending a Christian Science Sunday School from a very early age. There I learned happily of God's love for His children and of the Science of Christ as discovered by Mrs. Eddy.
Relying on Christian Science throughout the upbringing of two children has proved to be a great joy. My husband is supportive of my reliance on God, as taught in Christian Science, and agreed to have our daughters attend a Christian Science Sunday School from the ages of three and two. They were lovingly taught, and they have experienced much good through their own growing understanding of Christian Science. Through prayer, a broken wrist set perfectly, deep cuts were healed almost overnight, so-called contagious childhood illnesses were quickly healed, and hay fever was healed with a Christian Science practitioner's prayerful help. These healings are but a few of many.
After two months of serving as Second Reader at a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, I became aware that my spectacles were not quite right. I had needed to wear optical lenses for many years, and I had been required to put them on for a driving test only five months before. After a most extensive eye test, a puzzled optometrist told me that I did not require spectacles, for my eyesight was perfect! I joyfully explained that as a student of Christian Science I prayed and studied the Bible daily to see the man created in God's image and likeness.
I believe this healing came through obedience to the Father, and in striving to be unselfish and to do rightly by my relatives and friends. This healing occurred almost twenty years ago and has proved permanent.
At another time I woke one night and could not move without intense pain in my back. I spent many hours with the Lord's Prayer, and "the scientific statement of being" found on page 468 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. I was trying to stay close to God.
I managed not to disturb my husband, and in the early morning when he woke up he asked me if I would like something to drink. As he went to the door he turned, saying "I expect you would like your books?" (the Bible and Science and Health, the Christian Science textbook). I gratefully said yes. Shortly thereafter, there were two distinct clicks from my back audible to us both. I felt whatever had been out of place in my spine return to its right position, and I knew that I was healed.
That day was one of thanking God. I attended to the laundry, after preparing breakfast for the family, then proceeded as planned to walk into the town for groceries. With each step I rejoiced at my freedom.
I feel boundless gratitude for class instruction from a dedicated teacher of Christian Science. It has given me an even greater trust in our Father-Mother God and a yearning to know and express more of the Christ. I am striving to obey the instruction of Jesus' follower and our Leader, Mrs. Eddy (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 361): "Follow the directions of God as simplified in Christian Science, and though it be through deserts He will direct you into the paths of peace."
This testimony would not be complete without my expressing gratitude to the loving practitioners who are always ready to help and support us, for all the dedication and love we receive from The Mother Church, and for all the sincere Christian Scientists who write and share their inspiring experiences. I am truly grateful.
