"It's in your family"

Can evil really be inherited? What happens if we begin to see that God's family is our only real family?

The required eye examination had been completed. I had applied for a driver's license in our new state, but I had been unable to read the chart satisfactorily. The doctor said, "You have cataracts." After a momentary pause he added, "It's in your family."

Slowly I shook my head and silently affirmed that the only family that Mind, God, had ever created was a family of divine ideas. However, the doctor noticed me shaking my head and he said, rather impatiently: "You're not thinking! It's in your family! Think about it!" Then he added, "You must have an operation within the year."

The doctor seemed to feel that I was refusing to "face facts." But I was "thinking about it"—I was thinking about it in terms of my true family, my true spiritual heritage, which includes no cataracts. The claim that we are mortals and receive good and bad from other people is a lie. As I shook my head, I was consciously refusing to consent to the lie of false family inheritances.
